  • Newington Green Action Group is an all-volunteer, grassroots charity. We have been around for more than 20 years. We played a big role in reviving the Green but as the area has changed, so has our focus.

We are now prioritising our community cohesion work and concentrating on making Newington Green a good place to live for all - especially our most vulnerable residents. In March, as it became clear that coronavirus was going to hit our community hard, we decided to focus our efforts on coordinating a community response to the virus and its effects.

    See more info here.

  • Our general area of work is the Mildmay ward of Islington and areas of Hackney within 1/4 mile of Newington Green. We will try and accommodate anyone within 15 minutes walk of our Hub.

  • We are a registered charity and have a history of working in the area so our approach has been slightly different. We are in regular contact with the Clissold and Mildmay mutual aid groups. We are very happy to see the community come together in the way it has, and have agreed that we will work together. They are referring any particularly challenging cases to us and that has worked well so far.

  • We are independent but we have a constructive relationship with local surgeries and the Islington Clinical Commissioning Group. One of our trustees is an Islington councillor and we have strong links with Hackney councillors.

  • No, we do not. We don’t own any property or have any staff. We have close relationships with lots of local organisations, including The Mildmay Club. The Newington Green Food Hub is a joint project with the Mildmay Club.

  • Mary on the Green is a sub-committee of NGAG but has functioned relatively independently for the past decade. The Maggi Hambling memorial and Wollstonecraft-focused educational programme are now fully funded. More information can be found at www.maryonthegreen.org.
