Project Update: Environment
Garden on Green
The Environment Committee will be out this Saturday morning clearing the southwest corner of Newington Green in preparation for planting our 'Garden on the Green'.
We are still looking for volunteers to help us, so if you'd like to come along and do some gardening for a couple of hours, please email environment@newingtongreen.org. We are meeting at 10 am near The Garden Classroom hut.
We will be purchasing trees and plants very soon. Please donate here if you can.
Project Update: Community support
Welcoming Afghan Refugees
Islington Council has committed to welcoming at least fifteen Afghan families to the borough by the end of the year. We are working with them to find suitable accommodation in the Newington Green area.
The council's lettings and management service offers an excellent way for landlords to contribute to the housing response for Afghan families. The families will be eligible for housing benefits and funds will be available from the council to prepare accommodation and deliver integration support to the family.
If you are a landlord or know of any landlords with a vacant property who might be interested in helping out please get in touch with us at community@newingtongreen.org.
We are starting up a working group in order to welcome refugees to the area and are looking for volunteers to get involved. We are especially keen to hear from Pashto and Dari speakers to assist with translation. Please email us at community@newingtongreen.org if you’d like to help out.
