January 2026

Dear neighbours,

Happy New Year!

Reminder: AGM -  tomorrow

Wednesday 21st January, 7.30pm
Small Hall, The Mildmay Club

The AGM is a chance to hear what we’ve been working on, vote in trustees and discuss priorities for the year ahead. Anyone who lives or works in Newington Green is welcome to attend.

In the coming year, we expect to be involved in ensuring the new operator of the café on the Green aligns with community needs, and in pushing for the long‑promised traffic and environmental improvements to Green Lanes. And of course, we will continue to organise community events on Newington Green, such as Jazz on the Green, which offer the chance for local residents to come together and enjoy our shared green space.

Volunteering opportunity

Do you have a car? Are you available on Tuesdays from 10am–11am? There is a need for a driver to pick up surplus food for a local food justice project. You will be accompanied by a long‑standing volunteer.

If you don’t have a car but are free Tuesdays 11.30am–2pm to support guests at the food hub, please also get in touch at food@newingtongreen.org.

Blue Badge change - Islington

Islington Council has updated its policy so that Blue Badge holders can travel through camera‑enforced traffic filters without receiving a fine. Some residents will have their exemption applied automatically, while others will need to contact the council to register a nominated vehicle. Find the full details here.

Hackney Council also offers an exemption permit for Blue Badge holders driving through certain traffic filters, but it has a slightly different application process: see Hackney Council Blue Badge and LTN exemptions.

Islington GRT sites consultation

Islington Council is consulting on proposed Gypsy and Traveller (GRT) sites as part of its Local Plan, including a site on the Mayville estate near Mildmay Road/Auriga Mews. The consultation is seeking views on both the proposed locations and the planning policies that would guide how sites are developed.

Full details, including how to respond and consultation deadlines, are available here.

Bus routes consultation - last chance

Transport for London (TfL) is consulting on proposed changes to bus routes 19 and 38, including a new route (provisionally numbered 10) running between Dove Road/Mildmay Park and Battersea Bridge.

You can find out more, view maps, and share your feedback via TfL. The consultation closes on Friday 23 January.

In solidarity,
Team NGAG
