April 2021

Dear Neighbours,

We hope that everyone has enjoyed the sunny weekend and the easing of lockdown restrictions.

It is so wonderful to see the buzz in Newington Green and many of the local businesses coming back to life. With that in mind, we are especially excited to share an update on NGAG events below. As usual, we’re also writing with updates from our other working groups and with lots of opportunities to get involved.

We also wanted to remind everyone that tonight (Tuesday, 19 April) is the deadline to register to vote for the 6th May election. You can sign up here to get on the electoral register or to change your details.

Project Update: Events

Save the date!

Barring any changes to the lockdown roadmap and/or local coronavirus breakouts, we are going ahead with plans for the return of our much-loved summer jazz festival on the Green!

Please pencil in Saturday 17 July 2021, 12 - 6 pm for live music, comedy, stalls celebrating our beautiful community, and fun for all the family!  We will of course carry out risk assessments and put in place procedures ahead of the event to comply with covid rules.

Project Update: Environment

On 27 April, the environment sub-committee will be meeting to discuss a new planting project for the Green.

If you would like to join the environment group, please contact us at environment@newingtongreen.org

Project Update: Community support

We are continuing to facilitate support between community members. Please help us spread the message and let people know they can contact us for support.

If you or anyone you know needs support, you can contact us here:

Free Technology Help Sessions

Confused about Zoom? Having trouble ordering shopping online? Unsure about emails?

Computer Aid Network is offering free digital help sessions in Newington Green on Saturday mornings for people who have trouble using the internet and/or digital technology.

You can simply drop in and get help and advice from volunteers about basic tech problems. You can also book a slot online if you prefer.

Sessions are run every Saturday from 17 April to 29 May, 10 am - 12 pm at Newington Green Meeting House, which is on 39a Newington Green Road.

Covid Safe Scheme for Businesses

Watch out for ‘We are a Covid Safe Business’ stickers in shop windows!

We encourage local businesses who have close contact with their customers to complete Islington Council’s self-assessment forms about the covid safety procedures they have in place. The self-assessment helps ensure the safety of all staff and customers. Businesses will be visited by a council officer to complete an on-site assessment, and if successful they will be issued with a 'We are a Covid Safe Business' sticker to display in their window.

Census

Census day was 21 March but there is still time to fill in the Census now if you haven't done so yet.
Every household should have received their letter inviting them to take part. If you have lost your letter, you can get a new unique access code at www.census.gov.uk or by calling the Census phone line at 0800 141 2021.

In solidarity,

Team NGAG
