Update from NGAG Environment Committee

The Environment Sub-Committee’s key aim is to ensure that the Green is a healthy and pleasant place for those who use it. In order to monitor air quality on the Green we are applying to become a part of the Breathe London Community Network. If successful we will become part of a network of community groups working to record and improve air quality.

We are looking for passionate individuals to help us in creating projects, activities and events that will have a lasting impact on our community. Information about the project can be found here. If you would like to be involved, email environment@newingtongreen.org for more information.

Local meetings have started taking place about the Mildmay Liveable Neighbourhood programme.

We are aware that these sorts of schemes have proved controversial and divided opinion. As with the Walford Road and Stokey Church Street schemes we will continue to support measures to reduce the impact of traffic pollution upon our neighbourhoods and schools, but remain mindful of the varying needs of local residents and businesses.

At present we have been told that there are no firm plans about what streets will be affected or where any filters will go. Unlike previous LTNs that went in during the pandemic the Mildmay LN is going to be consulted on before implementation.

As an independent charity our aim is to ensure that the Green itself and the wellbeing of those who use it is our focus. We have written to Islington Council to ask for a formal meeting. Please contact us at environment@newngtongreen.org if you have a question you would like us to raise.

If you wish to contact the council about the proposals their email is mildmay.liveableneighbourhood@islington.gov.uk. We have been told that the project will soon have a website on Islington Council’s site.
