July 2024

Dear neighbour,

Huge apologies but due to illness we have to postpone tonight's AGM. Our constitution is clear that we have to give 21 days notice so we will come back to you soon with a new date for August.

Jazz on the Green 2024

A reminder that Jazz is this Saturday 13th July 12-6pm. More details on our instagram.

There will be free face painting for kids and food, drink and retail stalls from local businesses. As many of you will know we do not get any grant or government funding for the festival. All the organisers are volunteers and we pay performers and face painters their market rate. In order to be able to afford this a member has helped us to secure sponsorship from estate agency Chestertons. They will have a stall on the day.

Would you like to support us as volunteer?

Thank you to those who have already volunteered. If you want to help with set up come to Newington Green for 10am on Saturday and look out for someone wearing a high vis jacket.

Green Lanes petition

A resident has started a petition to call on Hackney Council to act to improve Green Lanes. The stretch of Green Lanes between Newington Green and Petherton Road is 40% Islington and 60% Hackney and at various times over the last eight years we have had commitments from both local authorities that there would be investment to make it a safer and greener road.

As there is no sign of Islington’s next Liveable Neighbourhod (which we were told would cover roads west of Newington Green) we fully support Claire’s campaign to get Hackney to deliver what they promised back in 2020.

Please take a look, sign and leave a comment if you agree and share with local friends and neighbours. We want to get to 500 signatures by the weekend and are currently 58 away from that.

Wellbeing Walks around Islington

The Garden Classroom are running ‘Wellbeing Walks’ with Bob Gilbert. The Newington Green walk on the 9th July (tomorrow!) may be of particular interest. More details on their instagram here.

In solidarity,
